Graziella Weber-Grassi is a Swiss-born, American-based artist whose work draws from memory, domestic imagery, and the visual language of mid-century America. Rooted in her childhood experiences of the 1950s, her practice reflects a deep engagement with storytelling, informed by the aesthetics of Dick and Jane primers, postwar interiors, and everyday household objects. Rather than relying on symbolism or overt critique, Weber-Grassi’s compositions unfold as personal narratives—quiet, reflective, and shaped by recollection—where familiarity becomes a gateway to imagination.

In Levitation 8, Weber-Grassi continues her exploration of scale, suspension, and domestic space through a striking combination of collage and gouache. A boldly painted green chair hovers improbably in front of a tidy suburban home, its oversized presence disrupting the calm order of the scene. The photographic backdrop anchors the composition in a recognizable, idealized suburban setting, while the hand-painted chair—rich in texture and saturated color—introduces a playful tension between reality and invention.

The levitating form functions less as metaphor than as a narrative gesture, echoing the elasticity of childhood perception and memory. By enlarging and isolating this familiar object, Weber-Grassi invites the viewer into a moment where the ordinary becomes wondrous and slightly surreal. Levitation 8 exemplifies her ability to transform domestic imagery into vivid visual stories, balancing nostalgia with imagination and infusing the everyday with a sense of quiet delight.
