Ahmed Ben Yessef (Moroccan, born 1945) is a prominent figure of the post-independence generation of Moroccan artists who played a significant role in shaping the country’s modern visual culture. Born in Tétouan, he received formal artistic training before continuing his studies in Spain, where he developed a sustained international practice. Working across engraving, drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture, Ben Yessef has maintained a strong commitment to printmaking as a central means of expression, valuing its discipline, clarity, and capacity for introspection.

Throughout his career, Ben Yessef has exhibited widely in Morocco, Spain, and abroad, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions at galleries, museums, and cultural institutions. His works are held in public and private collections, where they are recognized for their technical refinement, humanist focus, and meditative qualities. His practice reflects a thoughtful engagement with Moroccan cultural identity while remaining grounded in broader modernist traditions, securing his position as an established and respected contemporary artist.

Affirmation (1976), an engraving, presents a standing figure rendered through precise, economical line work that emphasizes posture, gesture, and symbolic presence. The restrained composition directs attention to the figure’s composed stance and clasped hands, conveying dignity, resolve, and quiet strength. By stripping the image of extraneous detail, Ben Yessef allows the emotional and spiritual character of the subject to emerge with clarity. The work embodies the artist’s ability to transform a simple figurative image into a statement of inner conviction and human endurance, reflecting the contemplative depth that defines his graphic oeuvre.
