Ron Witherspoon, also known as Rondell, is a contemporary fiber artist whose work transforms traditional textile practices into expressive sculptural compositions. Closely associated with New Orleans, his practice reflects the city’s rich visual culture, where color, rhythm, and craftsmanship are deeply embedded in everyday life. Working with yarn and mixed fibers, Witherspoon is part of a broader movement that elevated fiber art into the realm of fine art, emphasizing material, process, and hand labor as central artistic concerns.

This work presents three stylized female figures rendered in softly hued strands of fiber, arranged in quiet procession. Each figure is defined by subtle variations in color—cool white, warm ochre, and pale lavender—and by the gentle individuality of their wrapped head coverings and flowing forms. The restrained palette and vertical alignment create a sense of balance and contemplation, allowing the material itself to carry meaning through weight, drape, and texture. As in much of Witherspoon’s work, the figures are both abstract and deeply human, suggesting presence and identity without overt detail, and reflecting a calm, meditative sensibility rooted in his fiber-based approach to figurative art. Minor frame damage.
